Notice About Fellows & Extenders
Shasta Orthopaedics employs fellows and non-physician extenders. These licensed healthcare professionals may be involved in your care and treatment.
What is a Fellow?
Fellows are physicians who have completed their residency and are in the process of completing further training in a speciality. A fellow is a fully credentialed physician. A fellowship is not required to practice medicine but it is necessary for training in the chosen specialty.
What is an Extender?
A non-physician extender is a specially trained medical provider who is certified to provide basic medical services under the supervision of a licensed physician. An extender can order tests, make referrals and provide other care to meet the patient’s needs, serving as a support under the physician’s guidance.
