Raise Awareness For Cancer In Redding California

If you've checked out the Shasta Ortho blog lately, you know that we've been featuring an outstanding young lady from Redding, Katelyn Peterson, who has been doing some awesome things to raise awareness for cancer.

Katelyn's journey started when she shaved her head to show support for a family friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer. It has now grown into a passionate mission as Katelyn has since started an organization called Kids4Healing, and she is now actively spreading the word. Shasta Orthopaedics and Kids4Healing have joined together to support cancer awareness at Relay for Life at Shasta College on Saturday, June 7 but we need your help! You can support in three ways:

1. Join Us! - We need Adults and Kids to come walk with us for just 1 hour on Saturday, June 7. Please come to our very important informational meeting at 6:30 on Monday, May 19 to learn more and register! This is a great family event and teaches children about volunteering, community and helping others.

2. Donate! - CLICK HERE and donate online or stop by the reception desk at Shasta Orthopaedics and donate money (cash or check).

3. Dine out! - Print out the flyer below and bring it to the Redding Applebee's on Thursday, May 29 from 5-9pm and 15% of proceeds will be donated to our team!

Kids4Healing In Redding When 13-year old Katelyn Peterson of Redding learned that a close friend of the family, Lisa Franks, was battling breast cancer, she told her mother she wanted to shave her head so Lisa would know she was not alone during her fight against cancer. Katelyn's mother, Jessica Peterson, Controller and Finance Manager at Shasta Orthopaedics, took Katelyn to a local hair salon and filmed as Katelyn went from long locks to shaved pate and posted the video on YouTube. That was in early April. Since then, Katelyn has been inspired to start up an organization called Kids4Healing that brings together other children who want to show support for others with cancer. "I think I was meant to do something big in my life" says Katelyn. "I know I can make a difference." Katelyn and her brother Austin started a team for Relay for Life and they are now looking for sponsorships from individuals and businesses to meet their $500 goal before the event on June 7.
