Orthopeadic Surgeon In ReddingShasta Otho welcomes Hip, Knee and Shoulder Surgeon, Dr. Troy Miles

Shasta Ortho is excited to welcome Red Bluff native Dr. Miles as the group’s hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgeon specializing in arthritic and diseased joints.

He completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Miles was selected to represent his orthopaedic residency program at the American Orthopaedic Association Resident Leadership Forum in 2014. Following graduation, he went on to complete a prestigious fellowship in adult joint reconstruction and arthroplasty.

He has lectured at the Annual Meeting of the North Pacific Orthopaedic Society (2013), the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Surgery of the Hand (2014), and the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgery (2015). Dr. Miles continues his involvement in academic medicine, serving as a member of the clinical faculty UC Davis Medical Center and as a participant in clinical research.

We asked Dr. Miles a few questions about his work:

What will your key focus/specialty be at Shasta Orthopaedics?
“My focus will be on replacement of arthritic and diseased joints. Using state of the art technologies and cutting edge techniques, I aim to bring the latest treatments for arthritis of the hip, knee, and shoulder to the Redding community with the goal of easing pain and getting people back to the activities they enjoy most.”

What do you enjoy the most about doing the work you do?
“What I most enjoy about joint replacement surgery is helping people, who are limited by pain, get some relief and improve their function so that they can do the things they enjoy, and live the life they want to. There is nothing more satisfying than when you have someone who, when you meet for the first time is using a cane or a walker, almost in tears because of the disability their arthritis causes, comes into your office after surgery to tell you about all the things that they have been able to do. The fact that I get to do this with emerging technologies and techniques, like the direct anterior approach to the hip which allows greater precision and makes recovery easier and faster, is just icing on the cake.”

Where do you see your specialty in 10 years?

“Joint replacement surgery is an area of constant innovation and near limitless potential. In the next ten years I see robotic surgery becoming more commonplace, I see implants continuing to last longer and replicate the normal joint more closely, and I envision patients being able to get back to sporting activities that are currently advised against due to implant limitations. I have a passion for staying up to date on the most current trends and techniques so that I can offer my patients the best of what is available.”
