Muscular Strain
Muscular Strain can occur with improper lifting or over stressing the back muscles. It can also result from chronic overuse and repetitive movement of the back muscles.
Symptoms of muscular strain include sore or tight muscles. Treatments can include ice/heat, anti-inflammatory medications, and stretching and strengthening exercises as well as education on prevention.
You should see a spine specialist if symptoms persist longer than four weeks or if symptoms include weakness, burning or tingling in the extremities as this may indicate a spinal injury, rather than a muscular strain.
