Sciatica
The sciatic nerve runs from the lower back down the legs. Sciatica refers to pain that radiates from the lower back down one or both legs. It can be caused by irritation or compression that affects nerves in the spine. This can be caused by several different conditions including disc herniation, spinal arthritis, or muscular strain.
Sciatica refers to a pattern of symptoms, so treatment depends on the underlying cause. Treatment may include physical therapy, medications, injections, and in some cases surgery.
