Support Scholastic Wellness for Athletes

Community Youth Athletic Program In ReddingCalifornia does not provide adequate programs to ensure student athletes have proper health support to prevent and treat sports injuries. You can help fill that gap by supporting the SWAT Medical Foundation.

Since our founding in 1993, Shasta Orthopaedics has supported the community youth athletic programs. We have helped countless local athletes reduce injuries, heal better and reach the height of their potential.

To build on this history, in 2022 we established the Scholastic Wellness for Athletes Team, a dedicated team of Athletic Trainers to help fill the gap in medical foundation to help fund providing Athletic Trainers to school athletic events.

Your donation to the SWAT Medical Foundation can help increase the number of students who can benefit from the SWAT Team.

Why the SWAT Foundation is Critical

Community Youth Athletic Program In ReddingAthletic Trainers (AT) are critically important healthcare providers who help prevent injuries in young athletes, serve as the first responders when injuries occur and support optimal healing.

However Athletic Trainer support at our schools is woefully deficient:

  • California is one of a handful of states that does not mandate ATs for secondary schools.
  • 54.6% of CA high schools did not employ an AT (2017)
  • In the US, concussions account for 8.9% of all high school injuries and ATs assessed 94% of them.
  • The secondary school population leads the nation in athletic related deaths
