Avascular Necrosis

Avascular NecrosisAre you experiencing any of the following symptoms?

  • Pain in the knee may also be present.

Avascular necrosis is a condition in which the blood supply to the hip decreases or stops. This causes the tissue, including cartilage and bone, to break down and die. Avascular necrosis can be caused by an injury, or a complication of a hip fracture or dislocation. Certain medical conditions, including sickle cell anemia, gout, or lupus, may contribute to the development of this condition. Long-term use of medications or alcohol can also increase your risk.
