Ligament Tears
Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms?
- Feeling a pop in the knee associated with an injury
- Mild or severe pain
- Feeling of instability
- Swelling of the knee that limits movement
Ligament tears in the knee can cause problems that are sudden or long lasting. The two main ligaments in the knee are the medial collateral ligament, or MCL, and the anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL. Although injuries to the MCL occur more commonly, the ACL can be injured if the knee is straightened too far, or bent sideways. Ligament tears usually occur during sports or recreational activities.
